Episode 2 – New Times

Open to a black screen the Prince song ‘Sign ‘O’ Times’ starts to play. The music gets the first lyric.
Prince: OH YEAH!
Instance cut to a bright sunny light view of a rundown industrial estate and Lovett is running; she has her red coat on and a baton in her hand and behind her Die is running too; no gun in his hand. A head of them there are three white men running away. The Prince song is still playing. The men turn a corner and disappear from view behind a building; Lovett and Die are still running after them the, Prince song still playing. Lovett and Die get to the corner round it and the three men are standing about ten meters in front of them. Behind the three men are six more men. All nine men stand there looking menacingly at Lovett and Die. Lovett and Die skid to a holt. Lovett and Die look at each other. Die holds out his right hand and moves his fingers back and forth in ‘give me’ type way. Lovett reaches round her back with her left hand and then throws Die another one of her batons; her hands go back to her back and she pulls out her third baton; they both extend their batons at the same time.
They nod at each and run toward the nine men Lovett with two batons and Die with one. The song is still playing
The rest of the song Sign ‘O’ Times plays as a big fight takes place. The nine men are out classed and are going down to the ground all over. Lovett gets punched in the face by one man and Die knocks him out with a crack to the back of the head with the baton. Lovett and Die nods to each other and carry on fighting. Just as the song finishes they both hit the last man standing at the same time and he falls… The music stops.
Lovett: “That counts as mine.”
Die: “Don’t be silly, I hit him first.”
Lovett: “No you didn’t! Five to me, four to you, I win!”
About a dozen uniformed offices come running around the corner at this point. Lovett sees them.
Lovett: “You lot, cuff these idiots and bring them in for me please.”
Die looks at Lovett.
Die: “Tell you what four and a half each… I was thinking maybe Chinese for dinner.”
Lovett: “Yeah ok… but you know I get hungry again about an hour later.”
The man that hit Lovett groans and moves; Lovett kicks him in the head and passes out again.
Die: “Are you allowed to do that?”
Lovett: “Do what?”
Die: “Ok five to you, four to me. You win”
Lovett: “Damn right I win.”
Die looks at the baton in his hand. Lovett is putting hers back on her belt.
Die: “I am beginning to like these things”.
Lovett: “Give it back, that’s mine.”
Die starts to walk away still holding the baton.
Lovett: “No! Give it back… get your own!”
Cut to black.

The song choice is absolutely perfect (Can’t go wrong with Prince, after all! 🎵) and I adore the banter between Lovett and Die-it always brightens my day when I reread it! ❤
