She looks at her baton and then moves her eyes upwards trying to look at her own hat.
Lovett: “I’m not going to like it am I?”
Die: “Nope.”
Die manages to get into a low crouching position on his feet and moves round the other side of Lovett with his back to the camera.
Die: “I need to you couch like me but try and stay out view of the camera in front of me, keep your head low”
Lovett does it.
Lovett: “What now?”
Die: “Take you hat off and put on it the end of your stick.”
Lovett: “Oh that old trick? It won’t work.”
Die: “Just trust me.”
Lovett: “No, I don’t think I will ever trust you.”
Die: “When I say ‘now’ raise your stick above the wall but keep your head down ok?”
Lovett: “But you are facing the wrong bloody way.”
Die: “Don’t worry I am like the Sundance Kid I am a better shot if I can move.”
Lovett: “Who the hell is the ‘Sundance Kid’?”
Die: “How old are you?”
Lovett: “Is that relevant right now?”
Die: “I guess not I just feel really old all of a sudden.”
Lovett is taking her hat off and putting in her baton
Lovett: “You’re about to die aren’t you?”
Die: “No. Maybe. Look if I hit the camera and I do get hit, you roll into a ball and stay low take my phone and dial One-Six-Seven-One-One over and over until someone answers it ok?”
Lovett: “One-Six-Seven-One-One… what do I say when they answer?”
Die: “You won’t need to say anything.”
Lovett: “Do me a favour and don’t die please?”
Die: “Ready?”
Lovett: “No.”
Die: “Now.”
Lovett rises her hat on her baton above the wall as Die stands and turns, firing twice at the camera; a bullet hits Lovett’s hat whipping the baton out of her hand and Die fall back down again. Lovett is covering her face with her hands. The camera explodes and sparks. Die is laying on his back his near Lovett’s feet.
Lovett: “Are you dead?”
There is no answer. Lovett moves and puts her face close to Die’s trying to see if he is breathing he opens his eyes and kisses her quickly on the lips. She throws herself back sitting low against the wall wiping you her mouth with the sleeve of her coat. But Die doesn’t move.
Lovett: “Aww you sick bastard!”
Die: “Did I hit it?”
Lovett: “Yes but I kind wish you had died now.”
Die takes his phone a dial some numbers.
Die: “Now we just wait for the cavalry to arrive.”
Lovett: “And I am filing a complaint of inappropriate behaviour against you. Why do you taste like ginger beer?”
Die pulls himself over to her side and sit low next to her.
Die: “I may have got two cans for you and ended up drinking one while I was following you”
Lovett: “Two cans? You drink one the other one gets shot and I get none? Sounds about my luck. So we just wait it out now?”
Die: “Yep, he can’t see us now so if we crawl down there a bit he won’t even know where we are.”
Lovett: “What is that noise?”
Die: “I don’t hear anything.”
Lovett: “Probably the bang on the head you had. It is a high whining buzzing.”
Die: “like a fast turning small motors?”
Lovett: “Yeah, do you hear it.”
Die is looking at the sky all around them now.
Die: “No, not yet but I bet it is a drone.”
Lovett: “What one of those flying toy things?”
Die: “This one won’t be a toy.” “Yell if you see it.”
They are both looking around at the sky nervously now.
Three meter to Lovett’s right a black 20cm cube raises noisily over the wall it has four drone propellers are on each of the top corners. Lovett spots it and points.
Lovett: “Argh there!”
Die turns and fires at the drone it explodes will such force it knocks both of them over on to their back, bits of the drone fly everywhere one strikes Lovett in her forehead.
They both lie there not moving for a few seconds. Die moves, shakes his head and see Lovett laying on her back not moving. He crawls to her, his face over her and touches her face gentle with is hands.
Die: “Lovett… Charlotte.”
Lovett: “If you kiss me again I will shove my baton up your arse!”
Die: “Thank god.”
Die kisses her anyway.
Lovett: “Stop it, get off me.”
The door to the roof opens and a man with a torch walks outs shining it about; he is casually dressed slightly over weight and surprised to see them. Lovett and Die turn their head to him and start shouting.
Lovett/Die: “GET DOWN!”
The man just stands there with his torch pointing at them
Lovett: “Get down you idiot…
She looks at Die.
Lovett: “… Why isn’t dead yet?
Die: “I think Jacques has gone.”
Lovett: “Jacques?”
Die: “The gun man.”
Lovett: “You know his bloody name?”
Die: “Of course.”
Dies goes to stand but Lovett grabs his ties and pulls him back.
Lovett: “Are you insane?!”
Die: “I am sure he has gone. You’re welcome to stand with me.”
Lovett: “You are mad!…You’re sure he is gone?”
Die: “Trust me.”
Lovett bites her lower lip.
Lovett: “Ok.” “Now.”
They both stand up Lovett is still holding on hold to Die’s tie and she has eye tight shut with face screwed up.
Die: “See? I told you I was mostly sure.”
Lovett opens her eyes lets go of his tie and thumps him in the chest. He start cough with pain and hold his chest.
Lovett: “That is not what you said! Christ you are mental!”
Die: “That really hurt!”
Lovett: “Good!”
Lovett touches the cut on her forehead
Die: “We should get your head look at.”
Lovett: “You’re the one that needs his bleeding head look at you mad git.”
Lovett walks away to the hat and baton, the hat has a big hole right through it and the baton is broken.
Lovett: “Bloody typical! You’re getting me new ones Agent Die Hard!”
Four men in full black tactical gear and machine guns run through the door.
Lovett: “Oh you’re cavalry is here, too late guys!” “I’m going home to sleep!” “And I hate you.”
She starts to walk off again.
Die: “I don’t believe you do.” “Lovett let me take you to dinner.”
Lovett: “It’s gone midnight.”
Die: “Supper then?”
Lovett: “Piss off!”
The tall blonde woman is at the door now.
Tall woman: “Six-Seven report please.”
Die: “Later Harry.”
The tall woman looks Lovett up and down with a hint of disgust.
Harry: “First thing in the morning then please.”
Lovett stops and turns round to face Die he is walking towards her.
Lovett: “Actually I could murder a curry but you’re paying.”
Die: “I was thinking more of a candle lit…”
Lovett: “I don’t care what you were thinking.”
Die: “Now that, I believe.”
Lovett looks him up and Down.
Lovett: “I know a curry house that stays open all night for coppers. Come on Agent Stain.”
Die: “Oh I get it, Stain equals Dye right? That’s very funny.”
Lovett: “You coming or not?”
Die: “Lead the way Detective Bobble.”
Lovett hits him the chest again and he coughs with pain again.
Fade to black.

Can you see me?
Can you feel me?
Can you hear me?

The humor here is perfectly balanced to the more serious nature of what has just happened-the characters really shine through their conversation and descriptions, absolutely worth reading again and again. ❤
